Pastor's Comments - "Thank You, Lord!"

"Pastor’s Comment - “Thank You, Lord!”

As this Thanksgiving grows near, let’s remember to thank God, not only for all the personal blessings we have received, but to thank God for the many blessings of our country. Now I know you probably think, “Are you kidding?” Our country is in the tank. The recession is still here- jobs and homes are still being lost by the thousands, the government wants to take over more and more control of our lives (and our pocketbooks), the culture wars are going badly, marriages and families are in tatters, crime seems to be on the rampage, more and more churches are closing, our resources are depleting.... the list goes on and on. But what about being thankful for the Christian faith that this country was founded upon? Do Americans still hold this faith or have they forgotten? If you attend a church service or activity without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, than you are more blessed than almost 3 billion people in the world. Religious freedom is nothing to be taken for granted. Thank you, Lord! In our country we have electricity and running water 24/7. Air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter. We can go into a grocery store of our choice and see more food than Darfur has seen in the last year! And that computer you turn on and access? Not in many other countries. We can travel between countries without harassment, and have the right to free speech, to peacefully assemble and to protest what we don’t agree with. No, things aren’t perfect and yes, there are major concerns in our country. But overall, this is a great and awesome country! Pray for it and its people! Thank you, Lord."
